Rising Star: Princess Avorkoh’s Journey from School Rugby to the National Team

Princess Avorkoh is a student at the Future Leaders School in Accra and a proud member of the Futurestars Scholarship Scheme.

Her sporting talent was quickly spotted during the school’s after-school programme, where her speed, discipline, and natural leadership stood out in training and competition. These qualities shone brightly when she competed in the Rugby League of Ghana Rising Stars Tournament.

Princess was soon named captain of the Future Leaders School Rugby Team, and not long after, she earned an incredible opportunity to train with the Ghana Women’s Rugby League team.

Aged just 17 and surrounded by older, more experienced athletes, Princess held her own and impressed coaches with her determination and skill. Her hard work paid off when she was called up to represent Ghana, becoming the youngest player on the national team.

She made her international debut at the Tri-Nation Rugby League Festival, playing her first match against Nigeria Rugby League, the leading women’s rugby league nation in the Middle East–Africa region. She later featured in two matches against Roots Rugby (USA), earning three international caps in total.

Today, Princess continues to balance her studies with national team training, all while dreaming of representing Ghana on the global stage:

“I know I’m young, but every game teaches me something new. I want to keep growing, keep playing, and one day make my parents, Futurestars Charity, and Ghana proud on the world stage.”

We are incredibly proud of you, Princess — and we are cheering you on every step of the way! 🌟🏉
