Emmanuel Okyne-Tetteh, Futurestars project manager in Ghana writes:
“With the new Covid-19 restrictions allowing final year students in Ghana to go back to school, the coaches and I decided to reopen the development centre to help engage the children under the project and help them stay sharp both mentally and physically after almost a four month break from school work and sports.
We officially began these sessions on Tuesday June 30 2020 running from 10am – 1 pm with over 15 children in the Tema Stadium.
At this first session, we educated the children on the need to adhere to all the Covid-19 protocols as will be the case at these sessions (the children & coaches were in their face masks and everyone washed their hands with soap under running water immediately they got to the session). With our newly acquired mobile printer, we were able to also print out the mathematics questions for classes 2, 5 and 6 we received from teachers from the 5 member schools. We discussed these questions together as most children could not remember how they would have usually solved them. The children who did not have raincoats also received one each with a bag from trashy bags. These sessions have continued to run twice a week during July and will increase to three times a week in August. The coaches and I will do all we can to ensure all COVID-10 protocols within the country are followed for safe running of these sessions.”
