UK Foreign Secretary Visits Ghana

Futurestars in Ghana was delighted to be introduced to the UK Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, who visited the Trashy Bags factory in Accra as part of four-day visit to three African countries this month.

The Trashy Bags team gave the Foreign Secretary a tour of the factory and explained the Periods of Change Project we are running alongside Inspire to Rise and Trashy Bags. Our country manager, Emmanuel Okyne-Tetteh, had the opportunity to explain the work Futurestars does in Ghana working with some of the most underprivileged children in our sports and education programme.

We discussed how Beth Cadman OBE of the British High Commission in Ghana facilitated the partnership between the three charities for the launch of the Periods of Change Project and how positive the impact of that partnership has been on the lives of the young people we work with.

We also invited some teachers and children from one of our partner schools – Community 8/1 in Tema – who had the opportunity to meet and talk to the Foreign Secretary and the students presented him with a recycled Trashy Bag backpack as a gift.

A memorable experience for all, you can read more about the visit here.
