Through two of our wonderful friends we will be sponsoring Godwin Dagadu for his last year of Education in a Labadi Secondary School. Julia Regis visited Accra in March 2020 and Delores Vassell has already supported us and is planning to visit in 2022. Due to their generosity we can make sure Godwin finishes his education.
Godwin was one of the very first players to join the Street 2 School soccer project back in 2016, he is now 16 and plays for our U17s. After completing junior high school, Godwin’s parents couldn’t afford for him to continue and he stayed at home for a year. Akwaaba Volunteers enrolled him (and one other player Osu Salem) at Senior High after speaking to his parents and agreeing that we would take care of his termly fees if they could take care of his day to day needs – getting him to school, providing food and books.
Dagadu is now in his final year of school and will be graduating this September so the generous donations from Julia and Delores mean we can pay for his final year’s fees as well as his exam fees. After finishing school he wants to become a carpenter so we are looking into different apprenticeship and internship opportunities for him.
Godwin is a fantastic member of our team who always helps out in his spare time, working with our coaches at Street 2 school, joins us to help our work in the community such as when we constructed the Tippy Taps for children to wash their hands, and giving out gifts at Christams. We are so delighted he’s going to be able to complete his education and his future is bright!
Sponsoring particular children is something that several of our supporters have expressed an interest in, and it’s something we are setting up in the next couple of months so watch this space…
