Futurestars Schools Shine in First Rugby League Tournament

The recently concluded Rising Star Rugby League Tournament—Accra Edition (U-15), held on March 20, 2025, at Englebert School, was a historic moment for students from Future Leaders School (Panthers), Twedaase School (Bulls), and Tema Cluster Schools (Tigers). These schools, all Futurestars partner schools, participated in their first-ever rugby league competition after less than a year of training.

Despite their limited experience, the students showcased incredible determination and skill, proving that dedication and teamwork can make a difference. Twedaase School finished as 1st runners-up in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, while Tema Cluster Schools secured 3rd place in the boys’ division. Future Leaders School placed 4th in the boys’ division and 3rd in the girls’ division, with the Tema Cluster Schools girls’ team finishing 5th.

Beyond the competition, students engaged in fun and interactive activities such E-Rugby League Games and the Trophy Tour. These moments built excitement and deepened their love for the sport.

The performances of these young athletes were a testament to their hard work and the impact of structured training. Competing at this level after just a few months of exposure to rugby league is an achievement worth celebrating. Their journey in the sport is just beginning, and with continued support and training, the future looks promising.

In a proud moment, players from the Future Leaders School presented the Rising Star Rugby League Tournament trophy to the Guest of Honor, Deputy British High Commissioner Keith McMahon MBE.

We extend our gratitude to Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) and Salford Red Devils for organizing this tournament and to VertomCory for the sponsorship – giving these students the opportunity to grow and compete.

This is only the start of something great for rugby league within the Futurestars Charity Schools Project.
