A Celebration of our Coaches

Futurestars is 10 years old this year, and as an ‘Education through Sports’ charity we thought it timely to celebrate our outstanding coaches who work with the children across all six schools.

Most of these children had no access to sports or any PE 10 years ago. Giving them dedicated coaches who run regular sessions with skill, passion, and dedication has resulted in improved school attendance, and the children are not just learning sports skills; they are learning teamwork, patience, discipline, concentration, and resilience. In communities where opportunities are limited, our coaches bring structure, belief, and motivation to every training session. As our Patron, Terry Butcher says: “Playing sport gives a child more than just physical well-being, it contributes to a child’s development both psychologically and socially.”

So hats off to Coaches Silas, Caleb, Joseph, Grace and Jafaru who make all this possible!

Coach Silas Donkoh
Coach Silas has been with Futurestars Charity since its inception in 2015 and remains one of the most dedicated and long-serving members of the team. His unwavering commitment to sports development in schools and during after-school sessions has played a key role in shaping the charity’s growth and impact over the years.

Silas coaches football for both boys and girls and has taken the initiative to learn netball coaching to support the girls’ programme as well. His reliability, passion and hands-on approach continue to inspire both the children and his fellow coaches. Silas truly is a pillar of our programme in Ghana.

Assistant Coach Caleb Rockson
Coach Caleb joined Futurestars Charity right after completing his senior high school education, having been a former student of one of our partner schools, Community 8/1 School. He has been with the charity ever since and is currently pursuing tertiary education—fully funded by Futurestars.

Caleb co-leads the after-school sessions in Tema alongside Coach Silas, running football for both boys and girls, as well as netball for girls across our five member schools. Over time, he has shown significant personal and professional growth and has become a valuable asset to the charity, admired for his dedication, rapport with the children and commitment to their development through sport.

Coach Joseph Adeti
Coach Joseph has been with Futurestars Charity for nearly two years, playing a vital role in running the after-school football sessions at Future Leaders School. His consistent commitment has ensured that the children have access to regular sports activities after school. He organises structured games to keep young players competitive and engaged. Also, he steps in to run sessions during school breaks, helping to maintain momentum in their development both on and off the field.

Coach Grace Ashitey – Netball Coach
Coach Grace, a teacher at Future Leaders School, volunteered to support the charity’s mission by leading after-school netball sessions for girls. Her involvement helps keep the netball team active and prepared for competitions throughout the academic year. She plays a vital role in promoting girls’ participation in sports, fostering teamwork and ensuring that netball remains a consistent and engaging activity for the students.

Coach Jafaru Mustapha – Rugby Coach
Coach Jafaru Mustapha serves as the Rugby League Federation General Manager in Ghana and plays a key role in Futurestars Charity’s sports development program. Through his leadership and partnership with the Federation, the charity has successfully introduced rugby as its third core sport across after-school sessions in both Accra and Tema. A highly educated and experienced coach, Jafaru is passionate about grassroots development and is committed to nurturing young talent by introducing children to the game early and preparing them for progression to higher levels of the sport. His involvement has significantly strengthened the charity’s impact through rugby.
