At Futurestars Charity, we believe in breaking down barriers to education and opportunity. Recently, we had the privilege of making a meaningful difference in the life of twelve-year-old John Emmanuel Boye, a Class 4 pupil at the Future Leaders School in Tse-Addo, Teshie, Accra. John is the first child to become part of the Futurestars Scholarship Scheme through our partnership with the Rugby League Federation Ghana. The partnership aims to identify children with specific interest or potential in rugby who need extra support.
John’s daily two-hour walk to and from school was exhausting and a major obstacle to his academic progress and budding passion for rugby league. Living with his mother, Madam Victoria Sowah — who is currently unable to work due to health challenges — John’s resilience and determination caught the attention of our team.
In response, Futurestars Charity proudly donated a brand-new bicycle to John to ease his commute and support his educational journey.
John shared his excitement: “I used to get really tired walking to school every day, but I never gave up. Now, with the bicycle, I can get to school faster, learn better, and still have energy for rugby league training. I’m very happy and thankful to Futurestars Charity.”
His mother, Madam Sowah, also expressed her gratitude: “Raising money for my son’s schooling hasn’t been easy since I stopped working. This bicycle will make a big difference. It’s a blessing for our family.”
Mr. Emmanuel Okyne-Tetteh, Futurestars Ghana Country Leader, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “At Futurestars, we are committed to identifying real needs and providing practical solutions. John’s bicycle is not just a gift; it’s an investment in his future, giving him the chance to excel both in the classroom and on the sports field.”
