The Future Leaders School offers an education to some of the poorest children in Accra, Ghana currently educating around 400 students who otherwise may not attend school. It has been running for over 20 years supported by a group of trustees and in recent times the future of the school was in doubt. With no money from the local authority, in 2020 Futurestars agreed to plug the funding gap and work with the current stakeholders to ensure a stable future for the school. Some families are able to make a small contribution towards the school, but others need to be funded 100%.
We launched the Future Leaders Scholarship Programme at the same time and individual donors have come forward to help us achieve our aim by supporting the school running costs as well as directly supporting some of the most disadvantaged children who not be able to attend school without this support.
At the Future Leaders School we provide:
- Direct support for the most underprivileged children (children who would otherwise not be able to attend school) who join our scholarship programme and are provided with transport to and from school, lunch, schoolbooks and uniforms – any one of these items can mean a child is unable to attend school at all.
- Contribution towards up to 100,000 school meals a year
- Contribution towards the teachers’ salaries
- Contribution towards children’s school uniforms as needed
- PE classes for the whole school. Our qualified coach, Joseph Bennet Adeti visits the school three times a week and runs PE classes between 1-3pm for different classes, each child will have at least two sessions a week.
- After school football and netball. Joseph also runs after school football sessions and coach Grace (a Future Leaders teacher) runs after school netball, which is held on the netball court Futurestars marked out just by the school. Around 60 children (age 10-16) choose to attend these after school sessions three times a week.
We also offer volunteering opportunities at the school, and carry out refurbishment projects as funds allow.
